Resumo

A crescente participação da China em diferentes instituições internacionais e o aumento dos projetos de desenvolvimento em diversas latitudes do mundo não representam, sem dúvida, um fenômeno improvisado ou impulsivo. Pelo contrário, responde tanto a fatores e motivações de ordem doméstica quanto internacionais que propiciaram um dinamismo crescente do país  esse âmbito. Com base nessas considerações, o objetivo deste artigo é descrever o processo de inserção dos bancos multilaterais de desenvolvimento liderados pela China na América do Sul.
Para tanto, este trabalho aborda, em primeiro lugar, o conjunto de motivações domésticas e internacionais que favoreceram a expansão desses atores. Posteriormente, o estudo se concentra em determinar a trajetória do BAII, o principal expoente desse conjunto de atores, para finalmente identificar o tipo de dinâmicas que teve na América do Sul.
