Foundations of chinese foreign policy towards Latinamerica and The Caribbean. The relationship between the Tianxia, the Chinese Soft Power and the Belt and Road Initiative

The article analyses the expansion of Chinese Soft Power (SP) in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Community of Common Destiny (CDC). It hypothesizes that the Chinese SP through the BRI and the CDC aims to refute the "Chinese threat thesis" on a global and Latin American scale, although the gradual rapprochement of the Asian country with the region gives rise to various interpretations. It is a mixed study, combining quantitative and qualitative techniques (with the latter predominating), based on primary and secondary sources. The article concludes that, despite this multi-channel approach (including the BRI), it is necessary to deepen knowledge about Chinese initiatives and, in particular, about Chinese perceptions in relation to them, in order to identify common objectives that are beneficial to all parties.
